Assertive Discipline
Assertive discipline is a method of classroom management in which the instructor established a series of rules and a set of progressive penalties for disobeying rules. Each student is given a copy of the rules, and it is his or her individual responsibility to adhere to the guidelines or to accept the consequences. Rather than using a penalty system, it may be preferable in some situations to use a series of rewards for adhering to class policies.
Student Organizations
Student organizations provide an excellent opportunity for students to learn leadership, teamwork, and other employability skills while enhancing the practical technical skills learned in the classroom. Most student organizations operate as chapters under a charter from a national organization. Each local organization typically adopts a constitution which outlines the reasons for the group’s existence and a set of bylaws which set forth the rules under which the group will operate. Faculty members usually serve in the capacity of advisor.
