Assignment Criteria:
List a minimum of five rules that reflect reasonable student behavior in the situation in which you function (or expect to function) as an instructor.
Students should report to class on time each day.
Students should bring textbooks and appropriate materials to class each day.
Students should dress appropriately for a business casual environment.
Student identification is to be worn or carried while on campus.
Cell phones and pagers should be turned off or set to vibrate during class.
Food and beverages (except bottled water) are not permitted in the classrooms.
List the penalties (or consequences) for breaking those rules, indicating the increased severity of the penalties for repeated offenses. Be sure that the penalties you describe are both reasonable and enforceable.
First offense: Verbal warning by instructor with documentation
Second offense: Written advisement by instructor with copy to student file
Third offense: Referral to program chair for written advisement and counseling
Fourth offense: Referral to director of education for written advisement and counseling
Prepare the rules as a one page contract that can be signed by the student. Type or word process the rules contract. Careful consideration should be given to margins, headings and overall appearance. Everything should fit on one side of one 8.5 x 11 page and it should be clearly reproduced on high quality paper so that it will look professional.
List and describe at least one good resource from which further information about Assertive Discipline can be obtained.
