Concepts Presented in Way of the Peaceful Warrior

A blending of truth and fiction, in this book Millman presents his experiences as a college student who experiences a spiritual awakening at the hands of a peaceful warrior whom he calls Socrates. Through subtle, and sometimes not-so-subtle, techniques, Socrates teaches him the importance of making thoughtful choices, of being in the present, of being purposeful, and of controlling his mind and his body to achieve his goals and find purpose in his life.

Personal Observations

Although I found myself skeptical of some of the experiences recounted in this book, I feel that some important concepts were presented. Perhaps the most important to me at this time is the concept of being present in the moment. I have tendency to allow my mind to wander and to be distracted from what should be my focus in the present. As a result, I find myself overwhelmed and rarely enjoy any true relaxation. My goal after reading this book is to try to focus more on the present moment. I believe that by doing so will be a great stress-reliever.
