Specific Examples of Effective Teaching:

Ms. Rochin's lesson was a lecture on the anatomy, function, and disorders of the ear and hearing. She referred students to illustrations in the textbook as she reviewed the anatomy. She encouraged students to relate their personal experiences to the lecture topic, and her students seemed very involved in the lesson despite the early hour (6:30-7:00 a.m.). She also referred back to previous vocabulary lectures while discussing hearing disorders.

At the conclusion of the lecture, Ms. Rochin divided the students into 3 groups and gave each group of list of 10 review questions to answer. The groups were given approximately 20 minutes to work on the questions. They then shared their answers for discussion.

Specific Suggestions for Improvement:

I would suggest that Ms. Rochin prepare some visual aids for use with her lesson. If properly constructed, it would have enabled her to "build" the ear as she progress through the lecture. She might also want to consider reviewing pronunciation of terms before the lecture so that she is confident saying them.
