By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:

Start the PowerPoint software.

How will students be evaluated and what methods will be used to measure competence?

Students will create a PowerPoint presentation which will require starting the software.

Let students know that there are 3 different ways to start the PowerPoint program and the one they choose to use is a largely matter of personal preference, but can be affected by the way the software has been installed

Time Required: 1/2 minute

INSTRUCTIONAL COMPONENTS (include type of lesson and major concepts to be covered):

Describe and demonstrate three ways to start PowerPoint

Click Start/Open New Office Document

Click Start/All Programs/Microsoft Power Point

Click PowerPoint icon on Quick Launch toolbar

Discuss how the software installation may affect the method used to start the software

Time Required: 3 minutes

CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING AND/OR GUIDED PRACTICE AND INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:

All students will start the PowerPoint software using their choice of method

Time Required: 1 minute

CLOSURE ("Are there any questions?" is NOT an adequate closure):

Time required: 1/2 minute

MATERIALS NEEDED (video, worksheets, overhead, computer, quiz, etc.)

For each student: computer with PowerPoint software

For instructor: computer with PowerPoint software, data projector

STANDARD FOR ENGAGING AND SUPPORTING ALL STUDENTS IN LEARNING: In this lesson, I use technology to enhance student learning by demonstrating all three methods of starting PowerPoint using a computer and data projector.
