An Overview of the PowerPoint Window

STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE:

By the end of the lesson, the student will be able to:

Label the following areas of the PowerPoint window: Title bar, menu bar, Standard toolbar, Formatting toolbar, outline pane, notes pane, slide pane, status bar

How will students be evaluated and what methods will be used to measure competence?

Students will be given a screen shot with a numbered list of areas and will be asked to label each area with the corresponding number.

ANTICIPATORY SET OR MENTAL READINESS (describe the introduction to the lesson you will use to get the students involved in the lesson):

Advise students that knowing the names of the various areas of the PowerPoint window will make it easier for them to complete their work and describe any problems they may have

Review Student Performance Objective (from above) and how they will be tested

Time Required: 2 minutes

INSTRUCTIONAL COMPONENTS (include type of lesson and major concepts to be covered):

Distribute copies of PowerPoint Window Worksheet to all students

bullet

Project PowerPoint window and identify each area using the appropriate name

Time Required: 2 minutes

CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING AND/OR GUIDED PRACTICE AND INDEPENDENT PRACTICE:

Have students pair with a partner and quiz each other - one student points to each area on the computer screen and the other identifies it; then switch roles

Time Required: 5 minutes

CLOSURE ("Are there any questions?" is NOT an adequate closure):

Remind students that using the correct names will help them remember them for the test

Time Required: 1 minute

MATERIALS NEEDED (video, worksheets, overhead, computer, quiz, etc.)

For each student: PowerPoint Window Worksheet, computer with PowerPoint software

For instructor: Computer with PowerPoint software, data projector

STANDARD FOR ENGAGING AND SUPPORTING ALL STUDENTS IN LEARNING: In this lesson, I support interaction and collaborative learning by having students pair with a partner for review.
