Penny McLain, X-Ray Technician Instructor |

Specific Examples of Effective Teaching:Ms. McLain's lesson was a review of proper positioning for x-rays; she showed the class actual x-rays and asked questions related to previous lessons on positioning. Before the class began, she rearranged the seating in the room to allow for optimal viewing of the x-rays by the class. As she presented each set of x-rays, she asked students to describe the proper positioning of the patient for the x-ray. Using a skeleton, she asked students to point out the various bone formations that are used in positioning. She gave reminders about the material to be covered on the upcoming test and made suggestions for study. She provided excellent information about providing privacy and explaining procedures to patients during preparation for x-rays.

Specific Suggestions for Improvement:I would suggest that Ms. McLain break this lesson into several shorter lessons. The entire review lesson lasted about 1 3/4 hours without a break. Students were getting restless after the first hour. I would also suggest asking questions of specific students. Most of the questions she asked were answered by a limited number of students.
